Hallo. Many congratulations for your work. Is the program able to print the music it generates or to produce a file to be read from a music editor like Finale or Sibelius?

A bit dissonant for my taste, but it beats the hell out of what _I've_ written

Thanks for your comment Juan. Well, the program basically makes a random walk within a framework of musical rules, mostly interval theory, a little rythm ideas (but not much of that so far, unfortunately), and some other tunings that I added. For example, I added a factor of volume (how loud the music is), and I let the volume go up and down in waves which vary randomly. That simple thing made the music much more human-like.

This is the principle. For me it is almost like the computer and the program is an instrument that I play on. So much so that after a while of developing it I realized that it started to sound like my own improvisations that I sometimes do when I sit at a piano.

wonderful composition, i played those mp3s to people and they never figure out it is a computer generated music. I would appreciate some theory behind the program (not all related theory of course, like compilation and programming issues),but a few links about "how it works" would be appreciated.

Ok, that sounds interesting. Alea actually means dice in latin :)

I will keep you updated. It seems that I might try to make an online version of the program.

I bought (for only a few $s) a terrific generator called Aleatoric Compser 10 years ago. I doesn't work with recent versions of Windows and I have been looking for a replacement for a long time.
Please keep in touch on developments and availability with Randomusic.
Cheers
Nick

I have a plan to do that very thing. I will write to you by email and we can discuss it.

Hi, Magnus!

I'm a last year student in Computer Sciences in Granada (Spain). I'm starting my final year project, that it's related with algorithimic composition. In fact, I want to develop an automatic music streaming server for soft music. It could be useful as background music in elevators, and that kind of staff.

Using internet, i've found your page, and i think what you've done is great. If you don't mind, I would like to help you, in order to improve randomusic or to give the posibility of use it as a streaming web service.

Here is my email: miguems @ correo.ugr.es .If you are interested, just send me and email, and we can go on contact.
See you and Thanks!

Thanks for your interesting reflections on music, these are questions that I often thought about when I developed Randomusic.

The links you gave seem interesting. I will definitely check them out!
